In the interest of full disclosure let me first say that “my brother Tom and I are both military veterans, so yes, we have a dog in the fight! Yes we have an axe to grind and yes we are a little bit biased in our opinion? Although neither of us has ever had to utilize the services of one of our V.A. Hospitals: we have had occasion to visit many friends, co-workers, not to mention family members who have. That said, here’s what I think!
On this Memorial Day in particular, I think it’s a really good time to express my respect, my gratitude, my heartfelt thanks (and my apologies) to; all our fallen warriors, all veterans of our military and all the brave warriors who are currently defending our freedom in every corner of the globe! There is no way we can ever repay the debt we owe!
I also think it’s a really good time to express; my disappointment, my distrust and my utter distain for the way most of our elected officials show little respect and little interest in caring for our nation’s true heroes, especially in their time of greatest need!
Why this particular Memorial Day you ask? Well I’m glad you ask! On this particular Memorial Day we are reminded (no thanks to the MSM) about the recent leak of a “secret waiting list” that has been in existence for God only knows how long, being utilized by our Veterans Administration! Not a computer list mind you, but a paper list; one that can be easily hidden or destroyed quickly if the need arises.
It’s a list of veterans waiting to receive appointments, admission to a V.A. Hospital, or badly needed and in many cases, life-saving treatments! How long is the list and how long do you remain on the list? Who knows (no sure answers to that question are available unfortunately)? In many cases, as has recently been discovered, until you die!
The list is apparently a tool of V.A. Administration officials; used to protect and ensure their bonuses for the great job they are doing to provide our veterans with the much needed healthcare they deserve, while in fact many of our veterans going without the care they deserve! Essentially, the list not only denies care to our veterans, but rewards the scumbags who didn’t give it to them!
In fairness, the current Obama administration is not solely responsible for the condition of our Veterans Administration! Neither is our current congress! They just happen to be the worst in my almost 70 years on the planet! My anger is directed mainly at them; because of the recent actions they have taken to cut veteran’s programs, lock them out of their own National Memorial Parks, destroying the military structure and wasting our tax dollars on things that are relatively unimportant to our nation’s security and defense, or any other useful purpose! So far they have shown Zero respect (Obama can’t even spell it correctly) for our veterans, our military; whether living or dead! In return I have Zero respect for them!
Other than lip service, past administrations and past Congresses have been very reluctant to address the problem, also! We the American people must share the responsibility for it as well; because we have turned a blind eye to what goes on in our Washington D.C.! America has slept through this whole situation that is long standing and has needed our attention for not just years, but decades!
Why do our elected officials ignore our veterans? Here’s one possible answer to that question! According to recent reports; less than 20% of our elected officials have served in the military (check it here http://www.hqafsa.org/aoc/113.pdf )
At the risk of being called a racist (and I’m sure I will be), our current POTUS has Zero military service; other than his current title of Commander-in-chief (sorry I can’t give you a link to check that one, but his records are sealed)! What a piece of work he is! What a joke! Not a funny one at that!
What can we the American people do to fix the problem and right an unforgivable wrong that has been shamelessly committed against our veterans? Our military and our veterans don’t have lobbyists and don’t have don’t have big bucks to contribute to campaign funds! I f they did maybe things would be different! If prior military service was a requirement to run for elected office; maybe things would be different! Maybe we should fix that first! Maybe we should change our government so that we require our Congress and our POTUS have prior military service! How about that, for starters?
How about we sent letters, Emails and make phone calls to Congress and tell them “we demand you fix the problem now”! How about we visit their offices in person (on those rare occasions they happen to be there) and let them know how we feel! How about we get educated to what’s really going on in the “District of corruption” and insist that they fix it! How about we show up the voting booth this November, for a change and show them we mean business!
In summary, lip service doesn’t cut it anymore! It’s time for action! If there are any true entitlements in our country, I would dare say that our military and our veterans (our nation’s heroes and best of the best) should be at the very top of that list; ahead of Welfare, Presidential vacations, Congressional perks, pet projects (aka Earmarks) that all Congressmen have participated in, and any other expenditures that are not absolutely critical to the security and wellbeing of our country! PERIOD ! Let me be clear about that period! (It’s not an Obama period either)!
Bottom line; if this atrocious, disrespectful, and despicable mistreatment of our military and our veterans doesn’t wakeup, outrage and get the good people in our country to finally take action to correct it; nothing will!
On this particular Memorial Day; join me America, in telling our POTUS and our Congress that we are tired of their lip service, their wasteful spending and their bullshit! Fix the problem now, or we’ll find some folks who will!
